GitProtect 2.2.0: GitHub Enterprise Cloud with Data Residency Backups, AES-GCM Encryption, and More
The huge news is coming: GitProtect is the first solution on the market to support the backup of the GitHub Enterprise Cloud with Data Residency environments. The launch of version 2.2.0 also brings more secure and efficient AES-GCM encryption, a refreshed dashboard, a new onboarding experience, support for Azure DevOps related work links, and much more.
Let’s dive into all the new features.
Backup of GitHub Enterprise Cloud with Data Residency
Support for GitHub Enterprise Cloud (GHEC) with Data Residency is a major new feature for organizations that prioritize data sovereignty and security. It should be especially interesting for entities from regulated industries, such as banking, healthcare, or gov.
GHEC with Data Residency is a specialized version of the GitHub cloud that ensures a high & professional degree of data isolation to meet stringent legal requirements (of GDPR or US government agencies, for example).
GitProtect is now the only solution on the market supporting the backup of GHEC with Data Residency.

Modern and Efficient AES-GCM Encryption
Starting from version 2.2.0, you can use the AES-GCM encryption. It is a standard recommended by NIST and ENISA that’s compliant with the NIS2 Directive requirements.
It offers the following benefits:
- AES-GCM combines encryption with authentication. It generates an Authentication Tag (MAC), which proves that no one has modified your backup data.
- It enables fast & parallel data processing, improving backup efficiency.
AES-GCM is now the recommended encryption method for GitProtect users.

Improved User Experience
The updated main dashboard and the new onboarding experience are the most immediate changes you’ll see.
Refreshed Dashboard
The dashboard is the place you land immediately after logging in to the GitProtect management console. It enables centralized, real-time insight into the entire backup environment as well as its monitoring.
The refreshed dashboard is clearer, letting you track compliance, SLA, recent backup tasks, and important notifications at a glance.
A new Storage tile displays 3 of your storage instances along with their capacity. With quick-action buttons, you can instantly view all available storage units or add a new one.

New Onboarding Experience
The onboarding process shows up once you’ve added a new type of resource to protect (e.g., a GHEC organization) to the management console. With the new experience, you get all the necessary information about the resource, backup plan settings, task monitoring, and data restoration, which makes configuration easier.

Restored Jira comments now include original author information at the beginning. This change facilitates user identification and traceability for project teams and auditors.
GitProtect API for Azure DevOps
We’ve added support for Azure DevOps to the GitProtect API to enable programmatic backup management for this platform.
Using dedicated methods, you can now list Azure DevOps backup plans, modify important backup plan settings, as well as add and remove projects and repositories in existing plans. Learn more

- Improved reliability of Azure DevOps work items restore.
- Improved restore transparency with warning messages for unsupported pipelines in Azure DevOps.
- Clear & unified backup and restore progress view for Jira Granular Backup.
- Improved restore consistency thanks to preserving original tab names in recovered Jira work items.
