Tagnile Automates Azure DevOps Backups and Enhances Security with GitProtect.io

Learn how Tagnile, a Finnish IT company relying on Azure DevOps, strengthened its data protection and freed up admin time with GitProtect’s automated backups.

On the mission to streamline document handling

Tagnile is a Finnish e‑services expert specializing in data tagging, data flow management, and document handling. With innovative solutions like Tagnile365, DocPath, and others, the company streamlines processes for municipal offices. Since their success depends on proprietary and data‑intensive innovations, protecting intellectual property is one of their key considerations.

A complex Azure DevOps setup in need of security enhancements

Tagnile’s operations are solely based on Azure DevOps for project management, including repositories, backlogs, artifacts, and deployment automations. The use of the platform is both widespread and complex, with separate projects for every branch of the business and every customer. T365, Tagnile's innovative solution tailored for municipalities and cities, is developed entirely on the Azure DevOps platform—ensuring efficiency, scalability, and seamless delivery.

Tagnile's team identified cybersecurity areas with opportunities for improvement. Specifically, the Azure DevOps setup didn’t include any levels of automated backup mechanisms, while there was also a need for migration to a new Azure DevOps organization for consolidation and governance. The team decided to find one tool to help solve both areas simultaneously.

With GitProtect.io safeguarding our Azure DevOps data, we’re free to focus on what truly matters—doing meaningful work with confidence and peace of mind.

Choosing GitProtect: A solution for backup and migration

After a brief reconnaissance, the Finnish company chose GitProtect due to the flexibility for setting up automated backup schedules as well as suitability for migration-ready backup-and-restore functionality. Moreover, the organization looked for a backup solution that allows assigning local storage, and GitProtect permits organizations to add as many storage locations as they need, both local or cloud (any S3-compatible ones). These unique aspects of the selected solution established a robust and resilient foundation for Tagnile, while also saving a tremendous amount of the company’s time.

Tagnile uses GitProtect in two areas:

  • Backup and restore - they had their whole intellectual property backed up and restored to another Azure DevOps organization, and there are now foundations for future migrations like this.
  • Automated backups - they established processes to shield assets against any threats, errors, or accidental deletions.

Backing up and restoring between organizations, deployments, sandbox-to-production, or cross-over recovery is one of GitProtect’s core mechanics, typically used by clients as part of wider data protection measures. It also happens that clients use this opportunity for moving across git vendors or deployment types (cloud to local or vice versa).

Reduced security admin time leads to more space for innovation

Although the Microsoft platform is inherently secure, GitProtect adds an additional layer of protection and control, allowing Tagnile to establish backup plans, data retention periods, and storage types to meet top security standards.

Now, in case of any failure or for testing purposes, Tagnile can restore data quickly without interrupting continuity. Depending on the case, it’s possible to recover data partially using granular restore or run a complete recovery to a selected location.

One of the key gains for the Finnish company from using GitProtect is the ability to allocate fewer resources to cybersecurity while maintaining best-in-class data protection standards.
